About Pontia callidice (Hübner, 1800)

This species has the scientific name Pontia callidice (Hübner, 1800). The description provided here is taken from Charles Thomas Bingham's 1907 work The Fauna of British India, Including Ceylon and Burma, Butterflies, Volume II, pages 178–179. Bingham lists this species as Pieris callidice, which he notes is a synonym of Pieris kalora described by Moore in 1865 (published in the Proceedings of the Zoological Society of London, page 449). According to Bingham's 1907 account, within India, this species occurs in the north-western Himalayas at elevations above 12,000 feet (3,700 m), ranging from Chitral to Mussoorie. It is also found in the higher mountains of Europe, across Asia from the Altai Mountains to the Himalayas, and in China. This species inhabits high-altitude alpine meadows located above the tree line.
