About Pontia beckerii (Edwards, 1871)
Pontia beckerii, commonly known as Becker's white, Great Basin white, or sagebrush white, is a butterfly species belonging to the family Pieridae. This butterfly is native to western North America, with a range extending from Baja California, Mexico in the south to southern British Columbia, Canada in the north. The majority of its wing surface is white, marked with small black patches; females of this species display more extensive dark markings than males. Pontia beckerii closely resembles other checkered white species in the same genus, including Pontia sisymbrii, Pontia protodice, and Pontia occidentalis. The wingspan of adult Pontia beckerii ranges from 33 to 48 millimeters. Known host plants for this butterfly include Isomeris arborea, Stanleya pinnata, Brassica nigra, Descurainia pinnata, Sisymbrium altissimum, Sisymbrium linifolium (listed under the synonym Schoenocrambe linifolia), Lepidium perfoliatum, Thelypodium sagittatum, and Thelypodium laciniatum.
