About Pommerhelix monacha (L.Pfeiffer, 1859)
Pommerhelix monacha has a subglobose, nearly round shell with 5.6 to 6.0 whorls. The shell’s base color ranges from dark brown to black, and it may also appear dark red or purple. Its sculpture features zigzag ridges combined with small ridges on the periostracum. The snail has a closed umbilicus, and its aperture is shaped like a rounded oval. The shell width measures between 26.2 and 30.3 mm, and the shell height measures between 18.1 and 23.2 mm. All visible soft tissues are yellowish grey overall: the main body is grey to dark grey, and the mantle is dark yellow or orange. This snail species occurs in high-altitude rainforests of the Blue Mountains, located in central eastern New South Wales, Australia. The original type locality was recorded only as "Australia", which can be narrowed down to Sassafras Gully, Springwood, New South Wales, Australia.
