About Pomacea scalaris (d'Orbigny, 1835)

Pomacea scalaris, first described by Alcide d'Orbigny in 1835, is a species of freshwater apple snail belonging to the Ampullariidae family. Its native range includes Bolivia, Paraguay, Argentina, Brazil, and Uruguay. It is an invasive species in Taiwan, where it was first documented in 1989. It was likely introduced to Taiwan alongside Pomacea canaliculata, which was illegally brought into the country for aquaculture purposes. The shell of Pomacea scalaris can reach a length of at least 31 millimeters, which equals 1.2 inches.
