About Pomacea flagellata (Say, 1829)

Pomacea flagellata (Say, 1829) is a species of freshwater snail that has a gill and an operculum. It is an aquatic gastropod mollusk that belongs to the family Ampullariidae. This species was called ghiesbrechti in older scientific literature, and it remains poorly understood to this day. Its shell is nearly globular in shape, and often grows to almost 100 mm in height. The shell is distinctly narrower than related species and has a large aperture. The shell surface often looks dimpled or hammered, and its color ranges from olive-green to reddish-brown, with colored bands. Pomacea flagellata is distributed in Southern Mexico and northern Guatemala.
