About Polymesoda caroliniana (Bosc, 1801)

Polymesoda caroliniana, commonly called the Carolina marshclam or Carolina marsh clam, is a species of bivalve mollusc belonging to the family Cyrenoididae. This species occurs along the Atlantic coast of North America; its range extends from Virginia to Texas in the United States, south to Campeche in Mexico. It inhabits shallow waters, from the intertidal zone down to 2 meters in depth. Local populations of this species are harvested for human consumption. The shell of mature individuals can grow up to 4 cm (1.6 inches) in length.
