About Polygonum plebeium R.Br.
Polygonum plebeium R.Br., commonly known as common knotweed, is a species of flowering plant in the knotweed family. It was first formally described in 1810 by Robert Brown, based on a specimen collected at Port Jackson, Australia. This species is native to Australia, Africa (including Botswana, Ethiopia, Madagascar, Nigeria, Zimbabwe, and Zambia), and Asia (including China, Korea, Mongolia, Kazakhstan, Manchuria, Bangladesh, and India). It has been introduced as a non-native species to the United States, Germany, and Japan. It grows in disturbed habitats that are frequently flooded, including stream banks, ditches, and rice fields. In some locations, it is eaten as a vegetable.
