About Polycera norvegica Sørensen, Rauch, Pola & Malaquias, 2020
Polycera norvegica is a species of smooth-bodied nudibranch that has two distinct colour morphs. Its base body colour is translucent white, with yellow or orange tubercles. These tubercles can merge to form lines along the mantle margin and the midline of the body. The spotted colour morph has smaller yellow spots alongside additional black speckles; in some individuals, these speckles may partially fuse together to create brown patches. The head of this species has four, or occasionally six, projections that have yellow pigment on their surface. In the speckled morph, this yellow pigment may be reduced to just small yellow spots. The gills and rhinophores are translucent white, with yellow tips. This nudibranch was originally described from specimens collected in Norway, and DNA testing has confirmed its presence in Scotland. In Scotland, it lives in the same area as Polycera quadrilineata, a species that it was previously confused with.
