This species, Polinices lacteus, has a maximum recorded shell length of 40 mm. Its operculum is thin and horny, colored yellow or amber-red. The periostracum is thin and yellowish. Specimens of Polinices lacteus have been found across the southern Atlantic coastlines. Its recorded distribution includes the Caribbean Sea, the Canary Islands, the Angolan coast, the Cape Verde island chain, almost the entire South American coast, and the Gulf of Mexico. This species occurs between a minimum recorded depth of 0 m and a maximum recorded depth of 120 m.
