About Pogonortalis doclea (Walker, 1849)

This species has the scientific name Pogonortalis doclea (Walker, 1849). It shares the characteristic traits of the genus Pogonortalis: the cheek located directly below the eye measures less than one-tenth the height of the eye; the hind femur has an anteroventral keel on its distal third section; and the anterior crossvein of the wing connects to vein 4 before it reaches the mid-point of the discal cell. Pogonortalis doclea exhibits sexual dimorphism. Males grow a bundle of long, curved bristles on each cheek of the head. In the same location, females have only a single shorter bristle surrounded by small hairs. Larger males also have a ventrally widened head.
