About Podolobium aciculiferum F.Muell.
Podolobium aciculiferum, commonly called needle shaggy-pea, is a shrub that is typically prostrate to upright, and usually grows 1 to 3 metres (3 ft 3 in to 9 ft 10 in) tall. Its branches are covered with short, soft hairs. Its leaves are mostly arranged oppositely, and occasionally alternately; they are shaped either narrowly or broadly oval, and measure 1โ2.5 cm (0.039โ0.098 in) long and 3โ9 mm (0.12โ0.35 in) wide. The upper surface of the leaves is shiny and veined, while the lower surface is either sparsely hairy or smooth.
Its yellow-orange pea-shaped flowers are borne singly or in axillary racemes, with the corolla measuring 5โ9 mm (0.20โ0.35 in) long. Flowering takes place in late spring and summer. The fruit is an oval to oblong pod, 6โ10 mm (0.24โ0.39 in) long, that is curved and either hairy or smooth.
This species grows in wet locations within sclerophyll forests and rainforest margins, most often in stony sites on escarpments and the coast north of Nerrigundah.
