About Pododesmus macrochisma (Deshayes, 1839)

Pododesmus macrochisma, commonly known as the green falsejingle or the Alaska jingle, is a species of saltwater clam. It is a marine bivalve mollusc that belongs to the family Anomiidae, which is the family of jingle shells. This species is native to the northwest Sea of Japan. Its confirmed distribution includes the coast of South Primorye, Hokkaido Island, the northern part of Honshu Island, waters off southern and eastern Sakhalin, the Kuril Islands, eastern Kamchatka, the Commander Islands, and the Aleutian Islands. More recently, individuals of this species have been found in the Chukchi Sea near Alaska; this range extension is potentially linked to global warming.
