Podalia thanatos is a species of moth that belongs to the Megalopygidae family. This species was first described by William Schaus in 1905. It is distributed in Costa Rica and Guyana. The wingspan of Podalia thanatos measures 31 millimeters. Its forewings are black, with grey-white coloration on the apex and outer margin, and are crossed by pale olivaceous brown veins. A subterminal row of black spots is present on the forewings. For the hindwings, the base and inner margin are broadly black, while the remaining area is grey-white and crossed by pale olivaceous brown veins.
