About Podalia orsilochus (Cramer, 1775)

Podalia orsilochus is a moth species belonging to the Megalopygidae family. It was first described by Pieter Cramer in 1775. This species can be found in Mexico, Costa Rica, Brazil, Guyana, and Venezuela. Its wingspan measures 65 mm. The forewings have a white base, with markings that are light olivaceous brown. A small black spot sits at the base of the forewing below the median, and there is a broad median shade that is darkest along the upper portion of the cell. This median shade is crossed by whitish areas between the veins, and is bounded by a broad white post-medial line. Cuneiform streaks and spots follow after this post-medial line, and a terminal row of spots runs between the veins on the forewing edge. The hindwings are white, with the space below the cell and the inner margin shaded with olivaceous brown, and they also have faint spots along the terminal edge.
