About Podacanthus typhon Gray, 1833

This species, commonly called the pink-winged phasma, has the scientific name Podacanthus typhon Gray, 1833. For identification, its mesothorax is reduced in size and bears small spines. Its large wings attach to the mesothorax. Ventral spines cover a small portion of the thorax and abdomen, and its legs are reddish pink. Compared to the titan stick insect, P. typhon is a small stick insect. It reaches a length of around 110 mm, which is a similar size to the children's stick insect. This species is endemic to Australia. Within Australia, it occurs along the south-east coast in the Murray-Darling basin, New South Wales.
