Ploceus superciliosus (Shelley, 1873), commonly known as the compact weaver, is a bird species in the family Ploceidae. This species is classified by some sources under the binomial name Pachyphantes superciliosus, and it is the only species placed in the genus Pachyphantes. It has a highly discontinuous distribution, stretching from Senegal to Liberia, eastward to Ethiopia, and southward to Angola and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical seasonally wet or flooded lowland grassland.
