The spectacled weaver, scientifically named Ploceus ocularis A.Smith, 1828, is a bird species that belongs to the Ploceidae family. It is widely distributed across central, eastern, and south-eastern Africa, where it inhabits woodland, forest edge, and garden habitats. It is not present in the most arid African regions, including the Karoo, or in dense primary rainforest. This is a common species. Spectacled weavers breed in solitary pairs. Both males and females are bright yellow, with an olive-yellow back, distinct black "spectacles" markings around the eyes, and pale eyes. Males can be distinguished by their black throat.
