About Ploceus castaneofuscus R.P.Lesson, 1840

The chestnut-and-black weaver, whose scientific name is Ploceus castaneofuscus, is a bird species belonging to the family Ploceidae. Its distribution range covers West Africa, extending from Sierra Leone to southern Nigeria. This species was previously classified as a subspecies of Vieillot's black weaver, Ploceus nigerrimus. It was split from Vieillot's black weaver due to the striking differences between the two species in plumage color.
