About Pleuroprucha insulsaria (Guenée, 1857)

Pleuroprucha insulsaria, commonly known as the common tan wave moth, is a moth species in the family Geometridae. It was first described by Achille Guenée in 1857. This moth is found in eastern North America, ranging from Nova Scotia south to Florida, west to Texas and Colorado, and north to Ontario. Its range extends south through Mexico and Central America into South America, which includes Venezuela, and it has been recorded as far south as the Galápagos Islands. It has also been documented in the West Indies, including Jamaica. The wingspan of adult common tan wave moths measures 14 to 21 mm. In the southern portion of its range, adults are active in flight from March or April to October. In the northern part of its range, adults have been recorded flying from June to October. The larvae of Pleuroprucha insulsaria feed on a wide variety of plants, including Solanum dulcamara, Galium, Zea mays, Solidago, and species from the genera Castanea, Quercus, and Salix.
