About Pleurodema thaul (Schneider, 1799)
Pleurodema thaul, commonly known as the Chilean four-eyed frog, is a species of frog belonging to the family Leptodactylidae. This species is found in Argentina and Chile. In Chile, its range extends from the Antofagasta region to the Aysén Region. In Argentina, it inhabits areas near the Andes in the provinces of Neuquén, Rio Negro, and Chubut. Its natural habitats include subantarctic forests, temperate forests, temperate shrubland, temperate grassland, rivers, intermittent rivers, swamps, freshwater lakes, intermittent freshwater lakes, freshwater marshes, intermittent freshwater marshes, pastureland, plantations, rural gardens, urban areas, water storage areas, ponds, open excavations, sewage treatment areas, irrigated land, seasonally flooded agricultural land, and introduced vegetation. This species is threatened by habitat loss. Adult individuals grow to between 3 and 5 cm in length. They feed on insects and spiders. Reproduction occurs almost year-round.
