About Plethodon amplus Highton & Peabody, 2000
The Blue Ridge gray-cheeked salamander, scientifically named Plethodon amplus, is a salamander species belonging to the family Plethodontidae. This species is endemic to the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina, United States. It is counted among the 55 species in the genus Plethodon, and is one of the most recently described species of the genus. Its natural habitat is temperate forests. The species is threatened by habitat loss, and studies have found that practices such as clearcutting are a leading cause of its population decline.
