About Plestiodon dicei (Ruthven & Gaige, 1933)

Plestiodon dicei, commonly called Dice's short-nosed skink, is a species of lizard endemic to Mexico. The species was named to honor Lee R. Dice, who collected its holotype in 1930 during a faunal survey in Sierra de San Carlos, Tamaulipas, Mexico. For many decades, Plestiodon dicei was classified as a subspecies of Plestiodon brevirostris. This skink is found in northeastern Mexico, within the Sierra Madre Oriental across the states of Coahuila, Nuevo Leon, San Luis Potosi, and Tamaulipas. Isolated populations of the species also exist in the Sierra de San Carlos and the Sierra de Tamaulipas.
