About Plenasium banksiifolium (C.Presl) C.Presl
Plenasium banksiifolium has fertile pinnae that differ greatly in appearance from its sterile pinnae: fertile pinnae are curled. Sporangia can also grow on vegetative pinnae located immediately above and below fertile pinnae, and these pinnae have a compact shape. This means P. banksiifolium can be said to have three types of pinnae: fertile, sterile, and semi-fertile. Newly unfurled young sterile pinnae are red. Fertile pinnae start out mustard yellow, then turn green, and finally become reddish brown. A plant can produce more than ten pairs of fertile pinnae.
