Plaxiphora obtecta P.P.Carpenter, 1893 is a chiton species found in New Zealand. It reaches up to 90 millimetres (3.5 in) in length and 65 millimetres (2.6 in) in width, making it one of the largest chiton species recorded in New Zealand. This chiton has a broad dark brown girdle covered in small, short bristles, and reduced dark green valves that sometimes have a paler stripe running down the centre. It occurs frequently around algal holdfasts and within rock crevices in the low intertidal zone, most commonly on exposed coasts.
