About Platystoma seminationis (Fabricius, 1775)
Platystoma seminationis is a species of fly that reaches a body length of 5.5–6.5 millimetres (0.22–0.26 in). In this species, the interocular space and epistomes are black, and the eyes are reddish-brown. The thorax is greyish. The wings are translucent and greyish brown, with light spots. The abdomen is black and lacks punctuation. The tarsi are overall monochromatic black, though the largest tarsal segments are reddish near the base, or bear reddish hairs on their lower side. Additionally, the halteres have a blackish brown club. This species is present across most of Europe, including Austria, Belgium, the United Kingdom, Russia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Spain, Switzerland, the Netherlands and Ukraine, and is also found in the Near East. It is an adventive species in North America. These flies live in forest fringes and hedges, primarily on low herbaceous vegetation in shady areas.
