About Platysace compressa (Labill.) C.Norman
Platysace compressa (Labill.) C.Norman is an erect, ascending, or low-lying perennial herb. It usually grows to a height between 0.15 and 1.2 meters (5.9 inches to 3 feet 11.2 inches). Its stems are flat, rigid, striated, and winged, and sometimes measure 4 to 6.5 millimeters (0.16 to 0.26 inches) wide. The leaves of this species are small and scale-like, or are sometimes entirely absent. White or cream-coloured flowers grow at the ends of branches in compound umbels, which have thin spreading rays. Some of the longer rays bear umbellules, which are sometimes also compound. Flowering occurs either from September to March, or just from January to March. This plant grows on coastal limestone and sand dunes, and sometimes on granite hills and outcrops. It is found in the Esperance Plains, Jarrah Forest, Mallee, Swan Coastal Plain, and Warren bioregions of south-western Western Australia.
