About Platylesches moritili (Wallengren, 1857)
Platylesches moritili, commonly called the honey hopper or common hopper, is a butterfly species belonging to the family Hesperiidae. It is native to Africa. In South Africa, its range extends from KwaZulu-Natal, northwards along the coast and hinterland to Maputaland, from Mpumalanga to northern Gauteng, and from the central Limpopo Province to Pafuri. This species inhabits savanna and riverine forest habitats. Males have a wingspan of 31–33 mm, while females have a wingspan of 33–35 mm. Adult butterflies are active year-round, though they are most commonly seen between March and May, and between October and December. The larvae of Platylesches moritili feed on the young foliage of Parinari curatellifolia. The larvae are leaf green in color, with a black to brown head.
