About Platycheirus albimanus (Fabricius, 1781)

This species is scientifically named Platycheirus albimanus (Fabricius, 1781). Its morphological characteristics, for terms referring to Diptera morphology, are as follows: the wing cell bm has a small to rather large bare area that is not trichose. The first tibia is abruptly dilated shortly before its apex. The posterior edge of the first metatarsus is slightly curved. When viewed from the front, the face is dusted with a silverish color. The tergites have markings that are silvery or obscure yellow. It is extremely similar in appearance to three related species: the southern European P. muelleri, and the northern European P. nigrofemoratus and P. urakawensis.
