About Platanus mexicana Moric.
Platanus mexicana Moric., commonly called Mexican sycamore, is a deciduous tree that can reach a height of 80 feet (24 m). Its leaves grow up to 8 inches (200 mm) wide, with five lobes per leaf. In autumn, the leaves turn yellowish brown. When mature, this species can be distinguished from other sycamores like the American sycamore by its leaf characteristics, and the two species have almost entirely non-overlapping ranges. The upper (adaxial) leaf surface typically has a darker waxy cuticle, while the lower (abaxial) leaf surface is noticeably lighter, covered in a fine layer of soft white hairs.
