About Platanthera chorisiana (Cham.) Rchb.f.
Platanthera chorisiana (Cham.) Rchb.f. is a small orchid species, growing 4 to 20 cm tall. Most individuals have two leaves located at the base of the stem, though some may have just one leaf or up to four. Its small flowers have petals only 1.5 to 2.5 mm long, are greenish in color, and are often not fully resupinate (inverted). The species has a very short nectar spur, and blooms during July and August. Within North America, Platanthera chorisiana occurs in Alaska and Washington state in the United States, and in British Columbia, Canada. Its global range centers on the northern Pacific coast, extending west along the Aleutian Islands to Kamchatka, Russia, and reaching northern Japan. This species grows in bogs and wet tundra, at elevations no higher than 400 m.
