About Plantago eriopoda Torr.
Plantago eriopoda Torr. is a plantain species commonly called redwool plantain. It is native to much of western and central North America, ranging from Alaska to the southwestern United States and the Great Lakes region. It grows in moist and wet habitat types, and sometimes occurs in alkaline soils. This perennial herb grows a clump of leaves shaped like lances to narrow ovals, reaching up to 25 centimeters in length. The leaf edges may be slightly toothed, and the bases of the leaves are often covered in a coating of woolly red hairs. Stem-like inflorescences grow upright to a maximum height of around half a meter. A dense cylindrical spike of many tiny flowers sits at the top of the inflorescence's peduncle. Each flower has a whitish four-lobed corolla, with each lobe about one millimeter long, and is accompanied by sepals covered in small bracts.
