Description: The shell of this species has a width of 9 to 15 mm. The shell has a distinct keel at the center of the body whorl's periphery.

Distribution: Planorbis carinatus occurs across Europe, ranging from Spain to Scandinavia. It belongs to the European Wide-temperate distribution range type. This species has not yet been evaluated for the IUCN red list in Czech Republic, Slovakia, Germany, Netherlands, and Poland.

Ecology: This species lives in larger water bodies, including the open water of canals, rivers, and lakes. It is primarily a hard water species, and only occurs locally in very soft or acid waters.
