Plagiomimicus spumosum, commonly known as the frothy moth, is a moth species belonging to the family Noctuidae. This species was first formally described by Augustus Radcliffe Grote in 1874. It is native to North America, with a transcontinental distribution across the United States, extending north into southern Ontario and southern Alberta. The wingspan of adult Plagiomimicus spumosum ranges from 33 to 40 mm. Adults are active in mid-summer, and the species produces one generation per year. The larvae of this moth feed on Helianthus annuus. They burrow into the head of their host plant to feed on the seeds.
