About Placobdella parasitica (Say, 1824)

Placobdella parasitica (Say, 1824) is a species of leech native to North America. Like other leeches that act as regular ectoparasites of vertebrates in aquatic habitats, this species follows this habitual parasitic lifestyle. It can be distinguished from other species in the genus Placobdella by three key features: a smooth dorsal surface, pigmentation that ranges from simple to complicated in pattern, and an abdomen marked with 8 to 12 stripes.
