About Pittosporum umbellatum Banks & Sol. ex Gaertn.
Pittosporum umbellatum Banks & Sol. ex Gaertn. is endemic to coastal forests of New Zealand’s North Island, ranging from North Cape to Gisborne. It is a small tree, with an average height of 7 m (23 ft) and a maximum recorded height of 12 m (39 ft). This species has flat, smooth, glossy green oval leaves that measure 5–10 cm (2.0–3.9 in) long and bear ridges along their upper surface. It produces clusters of small pinkish or red flowers with pale bodies, carried on long stalks. After flowering, it forms 1.5 cm-wide (0.59 in) capsules that split into two sections to reveal black, sticky seeds.
