About Pithecopus palliatus (Peters, 1873)

Pithecopus palliatus is a species of frog belonging to the subfamily Phyllomedusinae. It has been recorded in Bolivia, Brazil, Ecuador, and Peru, with an unconfirmed potential presence in Colombia. This species occurs at elevations between 100 and 400 meters above sea level, and its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests and intermittent freshwater marshes. Pithecopus palliatus is currently threatened by habitat loss. Adult males of this frog measure 37.7 to 43.8 mm in snout-vent length, while adult females measure 38.8 to 49.1 mm in snout-vent length. The frogs lay their eggs near temporary bodies of water such as flooded areas. They deposit eggs on leaves that overhang the water, after which the hatching tadpoles fall from the leaves into the water below.
