Pirimela denticulata (Montagu, 1808), classified as a small, pretty crab, reaches up to 12 mm (0.5 in) in length and 15 mm (0.6 in) across its carapace. Its body is mostly green, marked with mottled patches of brown, purple, or red. The front edge of its carapace has three teeth between the eyes, two teeth surrounding the eye orbits, and five teeth along each side. This crab occurs across the range extending from the British Isles to Mauritania, and is also found in the Mediterranean Sea, the Canary Islands, the Cape Verde Islands, and the Azores. It inhabits burrows in sandy sediments or grows on underwater vegetation, at depths of up to 250 m (820 ft).
