About Piper peltatum L.

Piper peltatum L., which is also classified under the synonym Pothomorphe peltatum, is a shrub species belonging to the black pepper family, Piperaceae. It is native to the drier regions of the Neotropics. This shrub reaches a maximum height of 2 meters, equal to 6 feet 7 inches. Its leaves are peltate, measuring 18 centimeters (7.1 inches) in length and approximately 15 centimeters (5.9 inches) in width. It produces inflorescences in the form of upright white spikes that hold large numbers of very small flowers. The species' natural distribution ranges from Mexico in the north to Brazil in the south.
