About Pinus pinceana Gordon

Pinus pinceana Gordon, commonly called Pinus pinceana, grows as a small tree or large shrub. Its seeds are edible, but they are not produced often. This species is classified as Near Threatened on the IUCN Red List, and it is threatened by habitat loss. It is also listed as endangered in the Norma Oficial Mexicana. This pine species is endemic to Mexico, where it occurs in the following states: Durango; northern Coahuila, Nuevo León, and Zacatecas; central San Luis Potosí; and southern Querétaro and Hidalgo. Its range stretches more than 750 kilometres (470 mi) from north to south. Across most of its range, it grows at elevations between 1,100–2,600 metres (3,600–8,500 ft) in arid regions.
