About Pinheyschna subpupillata (McLachlan, 1896)
Pinheyschna subpupillata (McLachlan, 1896) is a large dragonfly species, with a body length of 61–64 mm and a wingspan of 87–91 mm. It has green eyes and a deep yellow to greenish yellow face. The upper frons features a central black spot surrounded by a yellow ring. Its thorax is brown with green stripes, while its abdomen is green with brown markings. The wings are slightly smoky, with brown and yellow veins, and pterostigmata that range in color from reddish-brown to yellow-brown. This dragonfly, a type of hawker, is endemic to southern Africa. It is common across much of southern and eastern South Africa, and also occurs in parts of Mozambique and Zimbabwe. Its natural habitats are fast-flowing streams and rivers located in montane and upland areas. It prefers rivers and streams that have densely vegetated banks, including both grassy and bushy banks.
