About Pinguicula caerulea Walter

Pinguicula caerulea Walter has the common names blue butterwort, blueflower butterwort, and violet butterwort. This species is a carnivorous flowering plant that belongs to the butterwort genus Pinguicula and the bladderwort family Lentibulariaceae. It is a perennial dicot. It grows in moist sandy pineland habitats in the southeast of the United States. The specific epithet caerulea comes from the Latin word caerulus, which means "from the sky or sea" and refers to the blue color of the plant's flowers.
