About Pilostibes stigmatias Meyrick, 1890
Pilostibes stigmatias is a species of moth belonging to the family Xyloryctidae. It was first described by Edward Meyrick in 1890. This moth is found in Australia, with confirmed recorded populations in New South Wales and Queensland. Its wingspan measures 44โ46 mm. The forewings are a pale brownish ochreous color, sprinkled (irrorated) with dark fuscous; the costal half of the forewings is suffused with ochreous brown, and has a moderate, transverse, oblong-oval very dark reddish-fuscous central spot that is narrowly margined with white. The lower end of this spot turns black and extends into a slender, acute, outwardly oblique tooth. The hindwings are fuscous, lighter in color closer to the base, and marked with a darker line along the hindmargin. The larvae of Pilostibes stigmatias feed on Elaeocarpus obovatus and Sloanea australis, and bore into the stems of their host plants.
