About Pieris krueperi Staudinger, 1860
Scientific name: Pieris krueperi Staudinger, 1860. As described in Seitz, P. krueperi Stgr. (20b) is found in Greece, Asia Minor, Persia, and other districts of Western Asia. This species differs from related species by having a black subapical costal spot on the forewing, plus several clearly separated black spots along the distal margin. The name-typical summer form has a white underside with yellowish margins. The spring form vernalis Stgr. (20b) has greenish grey color on the larger proximal portion of the underside of the hindwing. The Central Asian spring form verna Gr.-Grsh. is white on the underside, but has dark markings. The Pamir form mahometana Gr.-Grsh. is now classified as the separate species Pieris mahometana (Grum-Grshimailo, 1888), found in northeastern Afghanistan and the Pamirs; individuals of this form have black marginal coloring on the upper side, and are much darker on the underside. In female Pieris krueperi, the black spots are enlarged and partly join together.
