About Picus sharpei (H.Saunders, 1872)

The Iberian green woodpecker, scientifically named Picus sharpei, is a medium-sized woodpecker that is endemic to the Iberian Peninsula. It was previously classified as a subspecies of the European green woodpecker, but it can be distinguished by two key physical features: it has very little black coloring on its head, and the ring around each of its eyes is dusky instead of black. Its vocalization has been described as sibilant, or hiss-like.
