About Picumnus innominatus Burton, 1836

This species, commonly known as the speckled piculet, has the scientific name Picumnus innominatus Burton, 1836. Males and females generally look similar to one another. Both have olive-green backs, two white stripes along the sides of the head, and a dark green band near the eyes. Their underparts are creamy-white, marked with black spots, while males have additional orange and brown coloring on the forecrown. It occurs across the Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia, with recorded presence in Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Thailand, Tibet, and Vietnam. In India, it is found in the Himalayan foothills, reaching up to an altitude of approximately 2500 meters. Its natural habitats include boreal forests, subtropical or tropical moist lowland forest, subtropical or tropical moist montane forest, and bamboo jungles. The diet of the speckled piculet is made up of ants and termites.
