About Pica serica Gould, 1845

Compared to the Eurasian magpie, Pica serica is somewhat stockier, with a proportionally shorter tail and longer wings. It is the largest species of magpie. Its back, tail, and particularly the flight feathers (remiges) display strong purplish-blue iridescence, with few to no green hues. Most of its rump plumage is black, with only a few, often hidden traces of the white band that connects the white shoulder patches in related magpie species. The call of the Oriental magpie is the same as that of the Eurasian magpie, but it is much softer.
