About Phyllonorycter fitchella (Clemens, 1860)

Phyllonorycter fitchella is a moth species classified in the family Gracillariidae. Its known distribution covers Québec in Canada, and multiple US states: Connecticut, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, Texas, Illinois, New York, California, Florida, Georgia, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Vermont, Colorado and Missouri. This moth has a wingspan of 7.5 to 8 millimeters. In California, adult moths are active from March through October. The larvae of this species feed on oak (Quercus) species, specifically Quercus alba, Quercus bicolor, Quercus castanea, Quercus ilicifolia, Quercus macrocarpa, Quercus prinoides, Quercus pruinus and Quercus stellata. Larvae create mines inside the leaves of their host plants while feeding.
