About Phyllomedusa tetraploidea Pombal & Haddad, 1992

Phyllomedusa tetraploidea is a frog species that belongs to the subfamily Phyllomedusinae. Its known distribution includes Misiones Province in northern Argentina, Itapúa Department in extreme southeastern Paraguay, and the states of São Paulo and Paraná in southern Brazil. This species lives in rainforests on herbaceous vegetation near swamps, at elevations ranging from 400 to 1,000 meters (1,300 to 3,300 feet) above sea level. It can also be found in secondary forests and pastures. Females deposit their eggs in leaf nests built above the water of permanent forest pools, and tadpoles complete their development within these pools. The species is common across its range in Brazil and Argentina. The main threat it faces is habitat loss driven by agricultural activities, and it can currently be found in several protected areas.
