About Phyllomedusa distincta Lutz, 1950
Phyllomedusa distincta is a species of frog in the subfamily Phyllomedusinae that is endemic to Brazil. Individuals of this species have been observed at elevations up to 1000 meters above sea level. This frog can be found in both primary forest and secondary forest, where it typically occurs on shrubs near standing water. Female Phyllomedusa distincta lay their eggs on leaves that overhang permanent bodies of water; when the eggs hatch, the tadpoles drop down into the water below. Scientists do not consider this species to be at immediate risk of extinction due to its large extensive range, but the overall population of Phyllomedusa distincta is currently declining. The population decline is caused by habitat loss linked to urbanization, small-scale agriculture, silviculture, and logging.
