Phyllodesmium jakobsenae, a species first formally described by Burghardt & Wägele in 2004, harbors Symbiodinium genus zooxanthellae in its hepatopancreas, also known as the digestive gland. This species can reach a maximum length of 30 millimeters. Its known distribution covers Bunaken Island in North Sulawesi, Indonesia, as well as the Philippines. In terms of ecology, Phyllodesmium jakobsenae feeds exclusively on the soft coral Xenia.
